1.6% increase in electricity and water production in Oman until end of June 2023

Muscat: The total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman, until the end of June 2023, increased by 1.6 percent to 20,349.1 GWh, compared to 20,23.8 GWh during the corresponding period in 2022, according to the preliminary statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The governorates of Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah posted an increase of 0.4 percent in total electricity production to 12,985.5 GWh by the end of June 2023.

Electricity production in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate went up by 7.2 percent to 35.4 gigawatts per hour, as well as in the Governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah by 6 percent to 4,541.5 GW per hour.

In the Dhofar Governorate electricity production increased by 12.4 percent to 2,297.1 GW per hour, while it saw minor growth of 0.2 percent to 203.5 GW per hour in Musandam Governorate.

As for Muscat Governorate, total electricity production decreased by 51.5 percent to 181.4 gigawatts per hour, while it dropped by 33.2 percent to 104.7 gigawatts per hour in Al Wusta Governorate.

The Sultanate of Oman’s net electricity production until the end of June 2023, which includes the purchases of the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the purchases of the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region, stood at 19,697.1 gigawatts per hour, with the largest amount of net electricity production 12,547.6 gigawatts per hour emanated from the Governorate of Al-Dhahirah and the governorates of South Al-Batinah and North Al-Batinah,

Meanwhile, the total amount of water produced in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed an increase of 1.6 percent to 256,220,000 cubic metres by the end of June 2023, compared to 252 million and 296.4 thousand cubic meters by the end of the corresponding period in 2022. Dhofar governorate’s water production increased by 3.7 percent, followed by Muscat Governorate’s water production which went up by 1.7 percent.
