Over 1 million invasive birds eliminated in Oman

Muscat: The Environment Authority announced that more than one million invasive birds, including mynas and Indian crows were eliminated in the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Dhofar and Muscat by May 31.

The Environment Authority explained that 661,592 invasive birds were eliminated in the North Al Batinah Governorate, 203,077 birds in the South Al Batinah Governorate, 126,700 birds were eliminated the Dhofar Governorate, and 50,012 in the Muscat Governorate with the participation of community members, teams, and subcommittees which reflected positively on delivering the awareness message of the campaign and making the Omani citizen an active member in reducing the spread of these birds.

The main committee of the national campaign to combat invasive birds explained that after the great success in eliminating invasive birds in some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, such as the Dhofar Governorate and the North Al Batinah Governorate, the campaign was activated in more other governorates, including the South Al Batinah Governorate and the Muscat Governorate.

The campaign continues to expand, increase awareness, and the positive impact in the regions or geographical space of the implementation operations to maintain the balance in the ecosystem.
