142 expats arrested for labour law violations in Muscat

Muscat: More than 140 expatriates were arrested in the period between 14 – 20 May 2023 for violating the Omani labour law, the Ministry of Manpower reported.

In a statement Ministry of labour said: The Ministry of Labor, represented by the Directorate General of Labor Welfare (the joint inspection team), carried out an inspection campaign in the Governorate of Muscat during the period from May 14-20, and 142 workers were arrested in violation of the provisions of the Labor Law, including 91 workers who left work, and work is underway to take legal measures against them.

The Labour Ministry also stated that 222 workers to be deported.
