New Hospitals and Specialized Clinics Strengthen Healthcare in Al Wusta
Haima: The health sector in Al Wusta Governorate continues to witness the implementation of development projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of healthcare services through infrastructure development and the expansion of preventive, curative and rehabilitative services across all wilayats and villages.
The healthcare network in the governorate includes 18 facilities comprising 4 hospitals and 14 health centers distributed across the wilayats of Haima, Mahout, Duqm and Al Jazer. These facilities provide healthcare services to more than 64,000 citizens and residents using advanced medical technologies and qualified healthcare personnel.
Dr. Ibrahim Hilal Al Mahrooqi, Director General of Health Services in Al Wusta Governorate, said that healthcare services in the governorate have witnessed significant progress during the past three years, enabling residents to access a wider range of specialized medical services within the governorate.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he explained that dialysis services are now available in Haima, Mahout and Al Jazer, with plans to introduce the service soon in Duqm.
He added that Mahout Hospital, inaugurated on 29 April 2026, represents one of the governorate’s major healthcare projects due to the range of medical specialties and advanced emergency and surgical services it provides.
The hospital includes modern operating theaters, advanced diagnostic and imaging equipment, laboratory facilities and emergency response systems.
Dr. Al Mahrooqi stated that the hospital serves more than 30,000 beneficiaries, including residents of nearby coastal areas in South A’Sharqiyah and North A’Sharqiyah governorates. Its location also enables it to provide emergency and ambulance services for road users traveling between governorates.
He noted that the Advanced Emergency Unit project at Duqm Hospital is one of the largest healthcare projects in Al Wusta Governorate and is being implemented in partnership with OQ Group.
The project has reached 90 percent completion and is expected to open during the second half of this year. The facility includes operating theaters, accident and emergency units, intensive care units, inpatient wards, blood storage facilities and supporting healthcare services.
Dr. Al Mahrooqi added that the emergency department project at Al Jazer Hospital is expected to open within four months and will include specialized treatment and resuscitation rooms.
He also said that the expansion project of specialized outpatient clinics and the Mother and Child Center at Haima Hospital is expected to open during the second half of this year. The project includes clinics for ENT, dermatology, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, in addition to nutrition and ophthalmology services.
He explained that the Mother and Child Center is being established with support from the Ministry of Health and community contributions. The center will include specialized women’s and children’s health clinics, inpatient rooms and reproductive healthcare services aimed at improving maternal and child health indicators.
