183 doctors enrol in OMSB training programmes for academic year 2023/2024

Muscat: A total of 183 residents and 7 fellows will be joining various residency and fellowship programmes at Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) starting from the 2023/2024 academic year.

Specialties and subspecialties include Adult Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Intensive Care in the Royal Hospital and Medical Genetics, Adult Clinical Hematology in Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUS).

Accordingly, OMSB organized today its annual orientation day at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).

The orientation programme started with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Houd Abdullah Al Abri, Vice President for Academic Affairs, In charge of OMSB.

An introduction was also given on the post graduate training programmes and their activities, encouraging the new trainees to excel in their training journey. The programme was concluded with a panel discussion addressing trainees’ queries.

The new trainees have started their orientation programme before the orientation event (since 1 August) through Tebyan national e-learning platform, which contains all educational materials, policies, rules and regulations, and required courses.

The orientation activities will continue, as the new doctors enrolled in the Board’s training programmes will meet with the programme directors and members of the education committees. These meetings will be held in the Board’s headquarter and some of the training centres such as: The Royal Hospital, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and Khoula Hospital.

After the Orientation Day, the new trainees will also be enrolled in some additional courses and workshops on various topics such as infection prevention and control, communication skills, evidence-based medicine, and medical professionalism, some of which will be given through Tebyan national e-learning platform.

The Board seeks to provide an advanced level of medical education and training for Omani doctors in a multidisciplinary academic environment with the aim of raising the efficiency of the faculty and trainee doctors. The various residency training programmes extend from 4 to 6 years, and 2 to 3 years for fellowship training programmes. During the training, doctors receive specialized training in medical education in order to provide excellent healthcare to the Omani society. – ONA
