2nd Asian Arabic Debating Championship Concludes

Muscat: The Asian Arabic Debating Championship, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, concluded today. The ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Fahr Fatik Al Said.

The five-day championship, held at Oman Convention and Exhibitions Centre (OCEC), was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Oman Debate Centre and QatarDebate Centre.

In the category of Arabic-speakers, the team of Texas A&M University at Qatar took first place, while the team of Princess Sumaya University for Technology at Jordan bagged the second prize.

In the category of Arabic for non-native speakers, theIslamic Science University of Malaysia occupied first position, followed by the team of the Islamic State University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang at Malaysia.

At the conclusion of the event, HH Sayyid Fahr handed over trophies to the top two winners in each category, the top ten speakers from both categories and 5 top speakers in the category of Arabic for non-native speakers. He also felicitated different entities that supported and contributed to the success of this championship.

This edition of the contest saw the participation of 320 participants from 18 countries—among them 165 debaters and 75 arbitrators, as well as 50 Omani volunteers who helped organize the event. – ONA
