2nd Sharqiyah International Film Festival Kicks Off

36 films qualified for 2nd Sharqiyah International Film Festival

Sur: The 2nd edition of Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival was launched today in the Wilayat of Sur in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, organized by the Omani Cinema Society, Kuwait was the festival’s guest of honor, and in the presence of a number of those concerned with local and international cinematic affairs.

Anwar bin Khamis Al Ruzaiqi, director of the festival, said: Through these festivals, the Omani Cinema Society seeks to introduce and promote the governorates and wilayat of the Sultanate of Oman, and to pay attention to the seventh art in preparation and direction, pointing to what Omani and Arab cinema has achieved through these festivals and the amazement that the Al Sharqiya Festival holds.

In creativity for all makers and lovers of the seventh art. Al-Ruzaiqi pointed to the competition between the elite films that qualified for this festival, which arrived with care, carefully selected for what they aimed for and directed appropriately at the local, regional and international levels.

He welcomed the festival’s guests from the participating countries, including the State of Kuwait, the festival’s guest of honor. The festival honored guests of honor, including the Kuwaiti artist Ibrahim Al-Sallal, the artist Khaled Amin, the artist Khalil Al-Rumaithi, the artist Donia Mohsen Wizo, the artist Mustafa Masoud Ramadan, and the artist Khairallah Al-Anzi.

The number of films participating in the festival reached 255 films, ranging from short fiction, short documentaries and short animated films, of which 36 films qualified, including 16 Omani and 20 international, with participation from 35 countries.

The festival includes artistic performances of the participating films and visits to tourist attractions in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The Al-Washar symposium will also be held, and a working paper will be presented on investing in tourist sites and the economy of events presented by Amira Al-Balushi, and a session on documentary films and their role. In promoting archaeological places and sites, presented by Dr. Rashid Al-Yafei.
