38 acres of wheat crop harvested in North Al Batinah

Sohar: Farmers in the Governorate of North Al Batinah have begun harvesting 38 acres of wheat in various wilayats of the governorate. It is expected that this season’s harvest will reach about 50 tons.

Eng. Ahmed Ali Al Muqbali, Head of the Agricultural Production Department at the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah, said that the agricultural season for this year witnessed the cultivation of abundant quantities of wheat, reaching 38 acres in the various wilayats of the governorate.

It is expected that it will produce about 50 tons due to the abundance of production this season, he added.

He pointed out that the directorate encourages farmers and find new areas to increase wheat production. It also provides support to farmers through wheat seed at a subsidized price of 50 percent per kilogram and free harvesting from the ministry, in addition to continuous follow-up, technical and advisory support throughout the crop stages.

All the wilayats of North Al Batinah cultivate wheat, but the largest areas for wheat cultivation are found in Sohar and Saham, Al Muqbali said.
