Fourth edition of the Tour of Salalah Kicks off tomorrow

Muscat: The fourth edition of the Salalah International Cycling Tour will kick off tomorrow in Dhofar Governorate. The event is organised by Dhofar Municipality in cooperation with the Oman Cycling Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and will continue until September 11.

This edition of the tour, which has become an international race after being registered in the calendar of the International Cycling Union, is attended by 15 international teams from the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe, namely the national team along with the teams of the UAE, Algeria and Mongolia, the Victoria Sports Pro team from the Philippines, the Madar Pro Cycling team from Algeria, the Shimano Racing team from Japan, the Flanders team from Belgium, the Euro Cycling Trips team, the Ministry of Defense team from the UAE, and the Malaysian Pro Cycling team.

Several clubs are also participating in this edition of the tour, namely Dhofar Municipality Club, Qatar Pro Club, Weilerplug Grote Amsterdam Club from the Netherlands, and Al-Adham Club from Qatar.

The fourth edition of the Salalah International Cycling Tour consists of 4 stages. The first stage will start tomorrow, Sunday, for a distance of 131 kilometers, while the second stage will be held on Monday for a distance of 120 kilometers. The third stage will be held on Tuesday for a distance of 119 kilometers, and the tour will conclude on Wednesday with the fourth and final stage for a distance of 131 kilometers.

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, said in a statement: “The Salalah International Cycling Tour represents a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Dhofar Governorate’s natural scenery and interact with our hospitable community. The municipality is also keen to organize various events that serve all segments of society to promote sports and physical activity for all.”

For his part, Saif bin Saba’a Al Rashidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Cycling Federation, said: “The Oman Cycling Federation is keen to develop this tour, which has now become an international tour registered in the calendar of the International Cycling Union, stressing that the Oman Federation seeks to spread awareness of the importance of cycling in the Sultanate of Oman and achieve honorable results at the local, regional and international levels, by hosting these competitions, and the continuity of the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to the international agenda for cycling, such as the Tour of Oman and the Salalah Tour.”
