6000 expired food items seized in Oman

Dhofar: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Salalah seized 6,000 expired food items (macaroni) from an orphanage that they had purchased during the Holy Month of Ramadan from a company.

The company had tampered with the expiry dates on the packets and reprinted with new production dates.

They were distributed to one of the orphanages in Salalah, with the intent to exploit the increasing demand during Ramadan to quickly profit, thus violating the Consumer Protection Law.

The company tampered 6,000 food packets by printing a new expiration date for two additional years for commodities.

Following the seizure, legal measures have been taken and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution. The authority stressed to consumers the need to check the production and expiry dates of consumer goods before purchasing them.
