Oman Advances Rose Industry Project in Al Jabal Al Akhdar
Al Jabal Al Akhdar: The completion rate of the project to enhance the value-added of the rose crop in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, has exceeded 65 percent.
The project, with a total cost of RO 150,000, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
Implemented by the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the project aims to provide baseline data on rose cultivation and related industries, as well as establish partnerships with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the sector.
The initiative also targets the expansion of rose cultivation by an additional five acres, the introduction of agricultural mechanisation and the improvement of farming practices by 50 percent.
It includes training programmes for rural women in producing rose-based products such as soaps, lotions and cosmetics.
Hanan Said Al Sulaimi, Executive Director of the Fund, said that 120 farmers from Al Jabal Al Akhdar are participating in the project.
She added that the project seeks to enhance production quality and increase output, while developing related industries such as rose water and cosmetics, creating additional income opportunities and supporting the presence of Omani products in local and potential export markets.
The project also provides support to farmers through equipment adapted to the mountainous terrain, rehabilitation of agricultural terraces and distribution of rose seedlings.
In addition, SMEs are being supported through the provision of equipment for extracting rose oil and attar, contributing to increased value of local products.
Al Sulaimi noted that the project will continue to expand related industries and strengthen marketing and production chains, while introducing modern technologies and developing new rose-based products to improve competitiveness in the market.
