Muscat, June 12 (Omani) —- Tasks of the 6th edition of Oman International Conference on Food Safety and Food Quality began today.
The event, which brings together specialists from Oman and abroad, focuses on enablers of the food safety system. It also deals with artificial intelligence, modern technologies, the management of food hazards and challenges in the field of food safety.
Following its keenness to raise the standards of food safety and food quality, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources invited participants from Sultan Qaboos University, Laval University and five international organizations.
The three-day conference, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, presents 45 scholarly working papers, in addition to an exhibition specialized in food safety and quality. Private sector companies and establishments are contributing to the exposition, which dedicates a corner for showcasing the innovations of university students.
The first day of the conference included a lecture on the development of food safety and quality standards. The lecture highlighted the 60th anniversary of Codex Alimentarius, an organization specialized in food codes.
Another set of 12 working papers address issues of innovative machine learning on approaches to food quality, food safety and food testing requirements in the Arab region.
The papers touch on PCR-based methodologies applied for “halal food testing” and the verification of food environments.
The checking methodologies look out for specifications through the use of artificial intelligence and food monitoring techniques.
The lectures also address the impact of advertisements via social media on the safety and quality of food products: a case study deals with the toxic component ‘bromate; in packaged drinking water.
The opening ceremony of the conference was held under the auspices of Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. It was attended by representatives of Arab and international organizations and ministry officials. – ONA
