947 farm fires recorded in Oman in 2023

Muscat: The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority dealt with (947) reports in 2023 AD related to farm fires, agricultural waste, and weeds, compared to (851) reports in 2022 AD in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The authority explained that failure to follow safety instructions is one of the causes of fires that occur on farms and increase, especially in the summer. The authority called on farmers to follow safety instructions to protect lives and property by keeping fertilizers and pesticides in designated places and avoiding exposure to direct sunlight, disposing of cigarette butts in a safe place away from highly flammable materials, disposing of agricultural waste in safe ways, and not setting fires for cooking. Walking near trees or grass, making sure they are extinguished before leaving the place, supervising children and not leaving sources of ignition in their hands.

The authority noted the necessity of cooperating with the competent authorities to find easy and wide roads between farms for the access of civil defense and ambulance equipment and mechanisms while responding to reports.
