Muscat: The solar energy project in Al Buraimi Governorate is one of the important projects in the field of renewable energy implemented by the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate Schools for Girls and Sultan Qaboos Schools for Boys for grades 10-12.
Engineer Asim bin Abdullah Al Alawi from the Projects Department of the Ministry of Education told Oman News Agency that 246 photovoltaic panels have been installed to serve as a canopy for car parking, with a production capacity of 106 kilowatts at the Sultanate School for Girls 10-12.
He added: As for the Sultan Qaboos School for Boys 10-12, the number of photovoltaic panels reached 300, with a total capacity of 120 kilowatts, with a surplus of 239.16 megawatts since the actual operation of the project in 2017.
He stressed that solar energy projects in schools have contributed to reducing the cost of electricity bills by up to 40% and increasing students’ awareness of the importance of renewable energy, in addition to creating job opportunities for entrepreneurs who own small and medium enterprises.
He clarified that the solar energy projects implemented by the Ministry of Education in the educational directorates in various governorates are a translation of the Sultanate of Oman’s directive to adopt renewable energy projects that aim to diversify clean energy sources and raise spending efficiency in cooperation with companies supporting 27 renewable energy projects in various schools.
