A proposal to raise allowances for social security families in Oman: Minister of Social Development

Muscat: The weekly talk show with youth on Sultanate of Oman TV hosted Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development, to talk about many topics, including those related to the volunteer system, associations, civil teams, women and people with disabilities, and the system of security and social protection.

Her Excellency said that young people are the backbone of any nation, and their presence means the existence of a broad base of a young society, and this is a vital indicator of the existence of real development led by this generation to achieve future ambitions in various fields, and that they are the basis of construction, progress and development, and through their capabilities, skills and innovations, this country is built.

Her Excellency added that there are many challenges posed by the next stage, and through these energies, competencies and cadres from our youth, there will be a very great strength for the Sultanate of Oman to begin the journey of renewal and development and complete the process of building and progress for this dear country under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq The Great – may God protect him and keep him safe.

Her Excellency added that we are really counting on youth competencies and the knowledge provided to them and different spaces for creativity, innovation and thinking in a different way to be the ones driving this change and contributing to solving many problems and challenges facing society in various fields.

Her Excellency stressed that the social protection system is a basic requirement in all countries, and its existence is evidence that this role is not limited to one government agency, but rather is a national system in which the roles of several government agencies overlap as well as the private sector and partnership by the civil society.

Her Excellency indicated that the role of the Ministry of Social Development, being one of the bodies in this system, overlaps with the roles of several bodies in setting the procedural steps for them according to what is hoped to achieve the goals of this system.

Her Excellency also indicated that the support that the social protection system will provide will be gradually and at intervals to cover the largest group that needs support among the various groups.

Her Excellency stated that there is no unified definition of “limited income”, but there are several partner agencies working with various government agencies to organize this aspect and frame it in a comprehensive unified definition at the national level, which has not yet been finalized.

Her Excellency indicated that the security system and the Social Security Law have undergone many amendments and developments during the past years, but this system needs development and change to suit the variables and lifestyle, as the Ministry has worked on studying many provisions of the current Social Security Law and these changes were raised to target Other categories and adjusting the dues during the next stage.

Her Excellency indicated that the Ministry is studying the creation of a family protection law; In order to analyze the existing legislation, regulations and systems in force and address the shortcomings to come up with a clear vision that determines the need for a law directed directly in this aspect.

Her Excellency indicated that there are standards and foundations for nurseries supervised by the Ministry, and there is a special guide that the Ministry has completed regarding the establishment of nurseries, in addition to the rules and regulations governing them.

Her Excellency confirmed that the Sultanate of Oman has achieved a very advanced level in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and is still working on many items in partnership with all relevant authorities to find other gains for women in this agreement.

Her Excellency added that the Omani woman has proven her competence since time immemorial, and she will remain an effective partner, making her mark wherever she is found, and we are truly convinced of her abilities and capabilities to be present in all fields.

Her Excellency indicated that there are rehabilitation centers that provide services to children with disabilities, including 31 governmental centers, 36 private centers, and 11 centers affiliated with NGOs.

Her Excellency confirmed that (the three autism units) will be added to some of the rehabilitation centers that have been completed, and the ministry will develop an operating plan in coordination with the relevant authorities to launch this service at the beginning of the next qualification year.

Her Excellency stressed that the volunteer sector needs to be organized and there is a tendency from the ministry to find a section concerned with the existence of a national registry for volunteer data, and there are several initiatives that the ministry seeks to achieve in partnership with academic bodies to frame the volunteering system.

Her Excellency indicated that the Ministry welcomes any initiative that is beneficial and in the interest of society and the family and fully supports and supports it, and there are several procedures and stages before the declaration of any association.

Her Excellency said that the ministry worked on a proposal to raise the allowances for social security families and it was submitted to the competent authorities while it is under study, and we hope that it will be accepted and there is a serious effort from the ministry in this aspect.
