Muscat: Stal Art Gallery in Muscat Governorate has organized an art exhibition titled “A Tribute to the Spirit of the Late Artist Musa Omar” which will continue until October 7.

The exhibition, which was opened today under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, included 23 artworks that represented the experience of the late artist Musa Omar during the past artistic decades. He was known for his style that combined authenticity and modernity, and his interest in embodying the Omani cultural identity in his artworks.

His style relied on bright colors and local symbols inspired by popular heritage, which made him one of the most important pioneers of abstract art in the Sultanate of Oman. Throughout his life, Omar was one of the most prominent artistic figures, being an active member of a number of artistic and cultural institutions, including the Youth Studio, the Cultural Club, and the Omani Society for Arts.

He was also a member of the International Association of Fine Arts affiliated with UNESCO in Paris. The late Omar held several solo exhibitions in the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, and Germany, in addition to his participation in dozens of exhibitions, forums, and artistic circles locally and internationally.

A number of visual artists in the Sultanate of Oman, including Hussein Obaid and Mohammed Al-Sayegh, praised the late artist Musa Omar’s distinction with a different artistic line, as he focused on abstract drawing and overlapped with popular visuals and cultural aesthetics, surrounded by signs and symbols stemming from the environment and popular heritage, seeking to expand the artistic structure and present coherent visual proposals, as his works were full of geometric and decorative elements, his works reflecting bright colors and Omani symbols, such as the fish, the crescent and the palm tree, which created rich visual stories and that his experience shaped places and popular stories, as it is based on simplicity and spontaneity, with the use of materials from the Omani heritage and environment.
