Muscat: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources will start on 5th April in some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman a campaign / aerial spraying to combat the Dubas palm bug , with the aim of gradually eliminating this pest and reducing its effects on date palm trees and intercropping.

The first campaign of aerial spraying by helicopters is implemented in North Al Sharqiah Governorate during the period from 5 to 9 April with an area of ​​4,610 acres, followed by South Al Sharqiah Governorate during the period 10 to 11 April with an area of ​​2,000 acres, then Muscat Governorate on 12 April and covers an area of ​​1,100 acres and South Governorate Al Batinah during the period from 13 to 14 April and covers an area of ​​1140 acres, and ends in the North Al Batinah Governorate on 15 April and covers an area of ​​1,000 acres.

The second phase to begin in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate during the period from 5 to 9 April and covers an area of ​​5,441 acres, followed by Al Dhahirah Governorate during the period from 10 to 11 April and covers an area of ​​2015 acres and then Al Buraimi Governorate on April 12 and covers an area of ​​806,4 acres and ends in Musandam Governorate on April 13 with an area of ​​850 acre.

The aerial spraying campaign comes as a continuation of the annual program implemented by the Ministry to reduce the economic damage caused by the Dubas palm pest, the insect that attacks this crop and causes severe damage in many cases.

The ministry called for following up the spraying program to avoid getting the pesticide into the eyes and skin and not to breathe the mist and vapor of the pesticide during spraying, with the removal of all animals from the area before spraying, covering the ready-made animal feed, covering the drinking water sources for humans and animals to avoid contamination, and moving honey bee hives away from the control area prior to the start of spraying. aerial.
