Dhofar: The Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, represented by the Department of Land of Frankincense Sites, has completed restoration work on some sites of the Land of Frankincense registered in the World Heritage List.

Ali bin Salem Al Kathiri, Director of the Land of Frankincense Sites Department at the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that restoration work has been completed at the archaeological site of Samharam (Khor Rori) and the archaeological fortress of Al Baleed.

He added that the restoration work began at the end of December 2021 AD, and lasted for more than three months, noting that these works come within the Ministry’s plan to sustain the architectural heritage and historical and heritage monuments and employ them for the requirements of the tourism sector through the rehabilitation, maintenance and restoration of archaeological sites.

It is noteworthy that Al Baleed, Samharam, Bar and Wadi Dawka are sites registered in the World Heritage List under the name of the Land of Frankincense sites. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism represented by the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in the Dhofar Governorate is developing them and providing them with service and aesthetic facilities with the aim of promoting cultural and archaeological tourism in the Dhofar Governorate.
