Agreement Signed for Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations in Oman

Muscat: The Environment Agency and the Middle East Scientific Equipment Company sign an agreement on a project to develop and enhance the integrated national environmental monitoring and control program for the network of ambient air quality monitoring stations in the Sultanate.

The program aims to protect the environment and human health, enhance the Sultanate’s position in international environmental indicators and data within the indicators of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and support other priorities in Oman’s Vision 2040, such as the priority of health, governorate development, scientific research and innovation.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Omari, President of the Environment Agency, and Ahmed Al-Habsi, General Manager of the Middle East Scientific Equipment Company.

The “National System for Environmental Monitoring and Control” program, of which the agreement is a translation, is considered as building and developing an integrated national system for monitoring and controlling environmental pollutants in various circles, including the surrounding air, in order to ensure the safety of the environment, combat pollution and preserve the various ecosystems within the framework of sustainable development goals.

The program aims to protect the environment and human health in support of the sustainable development goals, enhance the Sultanate’s position in international environmental indicators and data within the indicators of the sustainable development goals 2030, the environmental performance index and global economic competitiveness reports, and support other priorities in the Oman Vision 2040 such as the priority of health, governorate development, scientific research and innovation. In addition to providing important data that helps the government in making development decisions based on sound scientific foundations, and fulfilling the obligations and requirements of regional and international environmental agreements regulating the Sultanate and the requirements of United Nations organizations related to health, environment and society.
