Nizwa: The Al-Aqr Wall and Square, which is a prominent archaeological landmark in the state, was opened this evening in the village of Al-Aqr in the state of Nizwa in Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is about 1,950 meters long, and about 400 square meters of it have been restored.
Ishaq bin Hilal Al-Sheriani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nizwa International Investment Company, said: Reviving ancient houses that were abandoned decades ago has today become a destination on the local, global and international maps and the first favorite destination in domestic tourism.
He added: The heritage village contained 18 rooms 7 years ago, while today it includes 200 rooms – and the number is increasing – with many quality facilities.
There are more than 15 cafes, two museums, a public library, and two majlis, in addition to a center for introducing Islam, a Qur’an school, and a popular clinic – considering that the first hospital in Nizwa was in Al-Aqr neighborhood.
He explained that these projects contributed to providing hundreds of jobs for young people, both college and part-time, and nationalized funds, consolidated the culture of self-employment, and inspired many young people.
