Ninth Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival to Kick Off on February 2
Adam: The ninth annual Al Bashayer Festival for Arabian Camel Racing will commence on February 2 at the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field in the Wilayat of Adam, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The festival will run for six days and will witness wide participation from camel owners from the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, affirmed that the festival enjoys the generous support and patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al-Mu’azzam — may Allah protect and preserve him — who accords the sport of camels great care and attention as it represents an authentic Omani heritage preserved by generations of Omanis.
In a special statement to the Oman News Agency, His Highness said that His Majesty’s directives to preserve this heritage are highly valued by specialists and those involved in camel racing. He noted that the Al Bashayer Festival supports the races organized by the Royal Camel Corps and the Omani Camel Racing Federation, contributing to the continuity and development of this traditional sport.
His Highness added that the Al Bashayer Festival represents a sporting, social, and economic forum that brings together camel owners and trainers from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC countries. He emphasized that the festival is held in recognition of its importance in preserving camel racing heritage and strengthening bonds of familiarity and affection among members of society on the land of Al Bashayer.
He explained that the organizing committee is keen to continuously develop the festival by enhancing the value of prizes, expanding the scope of participation, increasing the number of racing rounds, and diversifying accompanying events. These efforts aim to further elevate the status of the festival and strengthen its role in supporting camel racing activities at the national and regional levels.
His Highness also pointed out that the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field is undergoing ongoing modernization and development to ensure it ranks among the best camel racing venues. He stressed that the comfort of camel owners and trainers is a top priority, with comprehensive facilities provided for both camels and participants, and that security and safety measures are given utmost importance from the moment participants enter the field until the finish line.
