Al Buraimi Karate Open Championship kicks off

Al Buraimi: The first Al Buraimi Open Karate Championship kicked off today at the Al Buraimi Sports Complex Hall and will continue until tomorrow.

More than 400 players representing 17 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Australia and the Sultanate of Oman, are participating in the championship, which is organized by Al Buraimi Governorate in cooperation with the Omani Karate Committee and Al Buraimi Karate Academy.

The tournament includes 56 clubs from around the world, in addition to the participation of 4 players from the advanced world rankings, including those ranked 8th and 47th in the world.

Salem bin Namshan Al Kaabi, Director of the Events and Awareness Department at Al Buraimi Municipality, said that the championship is the launch of the “Al Buraimi Winter” events and is part of the governorate’s efforts to promote sports and tourism activities, adding that the aim of the championship is to support youth and develop their skills, and attract international expertise, which contributes to stimulating tourism and strengthening the local economy in the governorate.

For his part, Al Munther bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Buraimi Karate Academy and Director of the Championship, said that the aim of holding the championship is to strive to provide a unique sporting experience for participants and the public, and to look forward to enhancing the standards of local competition to be in line with the international level, which contributes to raising the level of karate in the Sultanate of Oman.

This championship also provides an opportunity for Omani youth to learn from international experiences, which contributes to their development in terms of sports performance. Al-Alawi added that the tournament will witness strong competitions, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.

The tournament is not just a sporting event, but an opportunity to enhance sportsmanship and discipline among young people and participants, and encourage them to practice sports as part of their daily lives. The opening ceremony of the tournament was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Member of the State Council.
