Al Jabal Al Akhdhar: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources clarified that the Al Jabal Al Akhdhar olive oil production in 2022 agricultural season sees more than 10,000 liters, market value is estimated at approximately RO 200,000.

Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Mansour Al Shanfari, Director General of the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said that the area planted with olive trees in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar until the end of 2022 amounted to approximately 100 acres, with a number of more than 20 thousand olive trees, adding that one of the most important types of olive trees grown in the Green Mountains (Jalat stickleback, Waldan, Kurunaki, Coratina, Khadari, Malaqi, Chammlai, and Arbequina) and its original homeland is Spain, Egypt, Tunisia and Syria.

He stated that there are many methods used in pressing olive fruits to extract oil, the most important of which is pressing by pressure (which is the traditional method). This type of pressing is done at very low temperatures, and this method is suitable for preserving the flavor of the oil and its nutritional benefits, and the oil can also be extracted.

By centrifugation, which is characterized by high efficiency and speed of completion, as well as by using organic solvents and electrical methods, and each method has advantages, and the method used depends on local needs, producers’ preferences, and the required quality, indicating that the high price of a liter of Green Mountain olive oil is due to several reasons, the most important of which is Consumers have confidence in the purity, organicity and authenticity of the product as a natural oil, anticipating that production will increase during the coming seasons, and thus this will lead to higher farmers’ returns.

He added that there are a number of manufacturing industries produced from olive oil in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, including soap and body and skin care products. There is a trend in producing charcoal, organic fertilizers and some household products from waste and olive trees, hoping that these industries will supply the local market in the coming years.

The Director General of the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate confirmed that the Ministry provides a number of development and extension services in the state of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar with the aim of promoting and consolidating the olive cultivation and industry. It also encourages citizens to plant and spread olive varieties of high quality and better economic returns, and seeks to pay attention to initiatives. Individuals from the state of Jabal Al Akhdar and private sector institutions in the field of cultivation of this type of tree.

He pointed out that there is a future vision for the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, which is to increase the number of olive trees, and allocate and offer usable lands for growing olive trees in the state of Jabal Al Akhdar.
