Al Khuwair Service Road to be one-way soon: Muscat Municipality

Muscat Municipality will soon implement a project on the existing service road adjacent to the Sultan Qaboos Street in al-Khuwair, by changing the current service road to be only one-way; to enhance traffic flow in the region.

Project components:

Changing approximately ( 6) kilometres of service roads to be one-way roads with two lanes in one direction, starting from the intersection of al-Khuwair road Zone No. 3534 until the intersection of the Ministries Street (below the flyover).

Inaugurating two additional entry points to the main Sultan Qaboos Street halfway along the service road, and at the end of the service road; in order to reduce additional driving times.

Converting a number of side roads into one-way roads for better vehicular movement.

Construction of new pedestrian sidewalks and parking facilities.

Construction of a new road link over the water canal adjacent to the HSBC Bank building.

Project objectives:

Addressing traffic congestion in one direction, thereby avoiding traffic hazards, side turns and reducing noise.

Improving traffic flow and ease of movement, to the neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.

Serving nearby public facilities and promoting commercial traffic in the area.

Developing the area with aesthetic touches.
