More than 12000 runners participate in Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2024
Muscat: The 2024 Al Mouj Muscat Marathon begins today, with the participation of more than 12,000 runners from various countries of the world, the race with 5 categories: the marathon, in which participants will cover 42.2 km, and a half marathon race with a distance of 21.1 km, provided that the minimum age allowed to participate in these two races is 17 years, while the third category of the race is allocated for the 10 km competition, which will allow… For participants aged 15 years and over, the fourth category of the race was allocated to the 5 km competition, and those aged 12 years and above were allowed to register in this race. The fifth category was allocated to the children’s race and was divided into three race tracks: a 1 km race, a 2 km race, and a 3 km race.
Samira bint Shaneen Al Shukailiyah, Director of the Sports Activity Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said that the Ministry’s support for the marathon comes in fulfillment of the strategic vision of Omani sports towards a sporting society, adding that the health and well-being of society is the highest priority, and therefore supporting this event will contribute to building a healthy and active society that adopts healthy behavior.
Ali bin Sulaiman Al-Ajmi, General Manager of Sabco Sports Company, the organizing company of the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon, said: The marathon highlights the importance of practicing physical activity from a young age, and the range of sporting activities available in the Sultanate of Oman throughout the year.
