Al Wusta Shrimp Festival 2024 Kicks off

Mahout: The “Wusta Shrimp Festival 2024” was inaugurated this evening in the Wilayat of Mahout in the Al Wusta Governorate, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Muslim Al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta, and will continue for four days.

Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al Alawi, Director General of the General Directorate of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Wusta Governorate, delivered a speech in which he touched on the importance of preserving shrimp wealth as an important economic resource and the role of the Ministry in educating the community and fishermen about the most important practices that affect shrimp wealth in the governorate, explaining that shrimp fishing in Al Wusta Governorate constitutes 74 percent of the total shrimp produced in the Sultanate of Oman. After that, a documentary film was shown about traditional shrimp fishing and the use of the rookery nets was explained.

A number of fishermen also displayed the marine art of “Tsubeel” on the maintenance of the rookery nets. The event’s sponsor opened the exhibition accompanying the festival, which includes about 20 corners from government and private entities showcasing the latest methods used in shrimp farming, available investment opportunities, and value-added products in shrimp wealth.
