Arab Forum for Consumer Protection kicks off at OCEC

Muscat: Tasks of the Arab Forum for Consumer Protection kicked off at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre today.

The forum, titled “Small Consumer and Sustainable Consumption”, is Organized by the Consumer Protection Authority within the context of the Arab Consumer Protection Week.

The event highlights the status quo of ‘the small consumer’ and is informed by local and international experiences in developing services rendered to this segment of consumers.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed Sultan Al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, and attended by representatives of consumer protection authorities in Arab countries.

Salim Ali Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, said that event focuses on small consumers with the prime aim of engendering a “safe consumption culture”.

Al Hakmani pointed out that the selection of the ‘small consumer’ as the theme of the 2023 Arab Consumer Protection Week underscores the need to address intellectual and technological challenges facing small consumers and influencing their social and economic choices.

The forum included the launch of a “Small Consumer App”, designed by the Consumer Protection Authority as an entertainment tool and a guide to spread awareness among emerging consumers.

The forum’s discussion sessions and working papers covered various issues related to ‘the small consumer’ and an overview of Oman’s of Oman and Arab countries in this respect. – ONA
