Muscat: Oman Air – the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman – confirmed that the percentage of in bookings to Dhofar Governorate increased by 20 percent compared to last year. This was after the royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to provide direct subsidies in fuel prices at Salalah Airport.
The ticket prices between Muscat and Salalah has been fixed at OMR 54 riyals for citizens throughout the Khareef season in Dhofar.
He added to Oman News Agency (ONA) that fixing ticket prices for citizens to Salalah will address the issue of high prices on the economy class that was witnessed in the past during the peak season of Khareef, he said, adding it which will contribute to strengthening of domestic tourism and supporting the movement of citizens between Muscat and Salalah.
He pointed out that Oman Air will add – starting next July – 7 flights per day to Salalah, bringing the total number will reach 11 flights per day, which can be increased in the event of more demand, indicating that these flights provide more than 1782 seats per day on the fleet of the national carrier’s aircraft Boeing 737-800.
He explained that Oman Air is currently focusing on strengthening flights to Salalah in conjunction with the Khareef season and the increasing demand for this destination. After the study of number of flights, the company found that several destinations were not currently witnessing high demand, and therefore, some flights were directed to Salalah to meet the demand travelers, especially on weekends and official holidays, and to take into account the appropriate timing for the different target groups.
Adel Al-Zadjali confirmed that the company provides services and facilities to all passengers on board to its various internal, regional and international destinations according to an integrated system, taking into account the speed in clearing travel procedures through the availability of 14 check-in counters at the Muscat International Airport and 12 check-in counters at Salalah Airport, in addition to two check-in counters for business class passengers.
He expressed hope that tourism during Khareef Dhofar season this year will witness a growing tourism movement at all internal, regional and global levels. Due to the exceptional weather and moderate temperatures enjoyed by the Dhofar Governorate during this season, in addition to the number of flights scheduled by Oman Air to the governorate, as well as the direct flights operated by airlines to the city of Salalah during this season.
