Oman Issues More Than 40,000 Building Permits in 2025

Muscat:  The total number of building permits issued in the Sultanate of Oman during 2025 reached 40,340 permits, compared to 36,517 permits recorded in 2024, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data, published in the 2026 Statistical Yearbook, showed that South Al Batinah Governorate recorded the highest number of permits with 8,194 permits.

North Al Batinah Governorate came second with 7,179 permits, followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 5,993 permits and Muscat Governorate with 5,854 permits.

Al Wusta Governorate recorded 345 permits during the same period.

By type of use, the residential sector accounted for the highest number of permits with 32,446 permits.

The agricultural sector followed with 2,191 permits, while the residential-commercial sector recorded 2,091 permits.

The government sector registered 1,868 permits, followed by the industrial sector with 874 permits, the commercial sector with 534 permits and the tourism sector with 105 permits.

The education and places of worship sectors recorded 10 and 15 permits respectively, while permits issued for other uses totalled 206 permits.

The data also showed that the total number of building completion certificates issued during 2025 reached approximately 24,470 certificates, compared to 23,743 certificates in 2024.
