Al Suwaiq: The Environment Agency, represented by the North Al Batinah Department, organized an extensive campaign to clean the environment of coral reefs in the Wilayat of Suwaiq, in cooperation with the Sohar Diving Team, and with the participation of many government and private agencies, civil associations and volunteer teams.
This campaign comes within the program implemented by the Authority to clean the marine environment and coral reefs of the coastal governorates of the Sultanate of Oman for the year 2023.
The campaign aims to clean the marine environment and coral reefs from plastic waste, fishing residues, etc., and through it, the health of the marine ecosystems of coral reefs and their biodiversity is also monitored, and the environment of coral reefs is preserved from pollutants and the remains of fishing tools and equipment.
The campaign also aims to spread environmental awareness among the community, in addition to achieving the participation of community sectors in spreading the culture of preserving Oman’s environment clean and encouraging the initiative. The campaign resulted in the recovery of a large amount of plastic and fishing waste estimated at 500-600 kilograms.
