Campaign to plant wild trees in Sur

Sur: The Environment Department in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah today carried out a campaign to plant many seeds for wild trees, including Al Ghaf, Sidr and Al Samar.

40,000 seeds were planted in Al Sabakh area in the Wilayat of Sur, within the framework of the National Cultivation Initiative to plant 10 Million trees in the Sultanate of Oman.

Adel bin Suhail Al-Mukhaini, an environmental systems technician at the Environment Department in South Al-Sharqiyah, explained that this campaign aims to combat desertification, reduce land degradation, increase carbon stocks, preserve wild plants and increase green areas.

He added that the aim of planting these seeds is to focus on the importance of the role of wild plants in sequestering carbon and contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change, and that plants are the vital formation of the environment and by their presence convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.
