Muscat: Oman’s Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) issues guidelines on how to prevent yourself from heat-related illness

Emergencies Associated with High Temperature are medical emergencies leading to increasing body temperature because of direct exposure to the sun or hot weather for long time, especially in summer.

How to protect yourself 

Drink water continuously and do not wait till you feel thirsty

Avoid direct exposure to the sun for long periods.

Avoid any physical activity in hot and humid environment.

Avoid wearing tight cloth

Avoid hot and fatty food.

Do not leave children in the vehicle even with the windows open.

Most Important Reasons:

High temperature

Direct exposure to the sun

Physical activity in hot and humid environment

Not drinking enough water

First Aid Action

Move the affected person to a cooler place, away from the sun.

Lay the affected person on his/her back, with both legs slightly elevated.

Remove the cloth of the affected person, leaving only the underwear.

If conscious and able, give the affected person plenty of liquids.

Ask for help to move the person to the nearest health facility.
