Bukha: Construction work continues on the breakwater project in the villages of Ghumma and Al Jari in the Wilayat of Bukha in Musandam Governorate, and the completion rate has reached 80 percent, with a total cost of RO 2.5 million.

Khalifa bin Ali Al Shehhi, Director of the Fish Wealth Department at the General Directorate of Agricultural, Fish Wealth and Water Resources in Musandam Governorate, said, “The project to construct breakwaters in the villages of Ghamma and Al Jari aims to address the accumulation of sand as a result of water currents and protect boats from high waves.

The project also contributes to fish landing operations and providing A suitable and attractive environment for fishermen to practice the fishing profession. He explained that the project consists of main peninsulas, secondary peninsulas, sheds, warehouses, boat slips, a small boat docking area, and other service facilities that contribute to providing basic services to the fisheries sector in the two regions.

He added that the length of the main marine breakwater in the Ghamma area is 203 metres, the secondary breakwater is 67 metres, and the area of ​​the port basin is 12,155 square metres. As for the Al-Jari area, the length of the main marine breakwater is 124 metres, the secondary breakwater is 41 metres, and the area of ​​the port basin is 3,173 square metres.

He pointed out that the project is expected to be completed during the first half of this year, as the project will contribute to providing facilities and rehabilitating fish landing areas to be a possible and attractive work environment for Omani fishermen.

To achieve direct and indirect economic and social returns, support the national economy’s revenues, and increase the fish sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product.
