CPA Chairman visits commercial centers, shops in Seeb

Muscat: His Excellency Sulayem bin Salim Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, on Monday morning, visited a number of centers and shops in Seeb markets, in ensure the commitment of suppliers to implement the value-added tax before Eid Al-Fitr, according to the law and regulation of the value-added tax law, which is supervised by the Tax Authority.

During the visit, His Excellency toured a number of markets to ensure their stability and availability of goods, monitor consumers’ observations, and closely review the extent of their implementation of the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations and the decisions issued by it.

The head of the authority stressed during his visit to the suppliers that the authority is working according to continuous working mechanisms in following up and monitoring the markets to ensure their stability, noting that the imposition of the tax should not be used to raise it higher than the specified percentage, appealing to the suppliers to reduce the profit margin in all goods covered by the tax in order to reduce the interest rate on the consumer from value added tax.

His Excellency pointed out that the authority directed all centers and shops in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to make a poster on all tax-exempt goods in order to facilitate and familiarize the consumer with all goods covered by the tax, calling on consumers to report any abuses that may occur from some in the markets.

It is worth noting that this visit comes within a series of field visits carried out by the head of the authority to various directorates and departments in the governorates, which aim to view the markets, enhance the role of the authority and improve the quality of performance and services provided by it.
