Oman’s CPA temporarily shuts facility selling building materials

Muscat: The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Batinah has temporarily closed an establishment specializing in the sale of building and construction materials products by a court decision. This decision was made in response to repeated complaints against the establishment for failing to deliver the goods as agreed upon.

The Directorate had received numerous complaints from consumers who reported that they had entered into contracts with the establishment, specifying certain conditions and specifications within an agreed-upon timeframe. However, the establishment violated these conditions and delayed the delivery of the goods to the consumers as agreed upon. Such behavior violates Article 19, item No. 5 of the executive regulations of the Consumer Protection Law and its amendments. This article states that suppliers must fulfill their obligations by delivering the goods or completing the agreed-upon services within the specified timeframe.

Upon examining the complaints against the establishment, the Directorate found a lack of transparency and credibility in their dealings with consumers.

As a result, the Directorate forwarded the case to the Public Prosecution, which subsequently issued a judicial decision to temporarily close the establishment and suspend its activities until the lawsuits filed against it are resolved.
