Muscat: In a proactive pursuit of consumer rights preservation, the Complaints Department of the General Secretariat within the Consumer Protection Authority, in collaborative efforts with the aggrieved party, achieved a harmonious resolution.
This resolution ordered the reimbursement of 7,297 Omani Rials to a distressed consumer. The intricacies of this settlement originate from a complaint lodged with the Consumer Protection Authority.
A consumer had entered into an agreement with a commercial entity operating in the heavy equipment and machinery sector, involving the supply of essential devices for their printing press. In accordance with this pact, the consumer had dutifully paid the sum of 7,297 Omani Rials in full, expecting timely delivery of the devices.
However, the establishment repeatedly failed to meet the agreed-upon delivery date. Subsequent visits to the establishment revealed explanations citing shipment delays as the cause of the inconvenience. New delivery dates were proposed, but alas, the institution failed to meet these commitments as well.
Frustrated by these recurring disappointments, the consumer submitted a formal complaint to the Complaints Department of the General Office of the Consumer Protection Authority.
The department promptly initiated the requisite procedures, summoning the concerned parties from the establishment to address the grievance.
Following a direct confrontation with the complaint, the establishment expressed their willingness to pursue an amicable resolution. Consequently, a settlement was reached, mandating the full reimbursement of the 7,297 Omani Rials to the consumer.
This episode underscores the Consumer Protection Authority’s call for strict adherence to prevailing consumer protection laws by suppliers. They are implored to meet their obligations diligently, safeguarding consumer rights, and ensuring the well-being and safety of consumers when providing products and services.” – CPA
