Muscat: Oman bans single-consumption plastic shopping bags from 1st January, 2021.
In a statement, Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) announced the availability of environmentally friendly and reusable shopping bags are available in the local market at nominal prices, explaining that these alternatives have become available in some markets and shops, such as bags made of paper, cloth and cotton, in addition to bags made of other organic materials.
The consumer clarified, that these types of bags can be used several times, stressing that it will monitor the markets, to ensure that the prices of environmentally friendly bags are not raised.
The Consumer Protection Authority called on all suppliers to abide by the laws and regulations in force to protect consumers.
