New Craft Incubator in Al Dakhiliyah to Empower Local Entrepreneurs
Nizwa: Activities of the specialized craft incubator laboratory began today at Nizwa Cultural Center in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, organized by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Department (Riyada).
The laboratory aims to establish the foundations for a craft incubator in Wilayat of Nizwa that supports craftsmen and enhances production efficiency through modern technologies.
Shabib bin Abdullah Al-Shukaili, Head of the SME Development Department at Riyada in the governorate, said the initiative seeks to engage craftsmen and the wider community in shaping the incubator’s framework through interactive dialogue involving decision-makers, experts, and practitioners.
He added that the incubator aims to address challenges facing craftsmen by providing technical tools and administrative skills to help transform small projects into sustainable enterprises contributing to the national economy.
The laboratory is part of broader efforts by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to develop the craft sector and enhance its economic and social contribution, while strengthening the competitiveness of Omani craft products locally and internationally.
Sessions focus on identifying priority crafts, determining required equipment, designing training programmes, and exploring opportunities for youth in creative industries.
The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with several entities, including Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the University of Nizwa.
The incubator aims to create an integrated environment that supports innovation in craft industries and promotes sustainable, economically viable projects.
The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al-Saadi, Governor of Nizwa.
