Muscat: The Cultural Club, at its headquarters in Qurum, inaugurated this evening the Cultural Club Award for Translation in the presence of Dr. Muhammad bin Ali Al Balushi, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, and a number of Board of Directors members and those interested in the subject of the award.
The Cultural Club has specified this year’s award to be in literary translation with the aim of encouraging Omani translators to activate the role of translation in the Arab world, drawing attention to Omani translators and revealing their creative abilities, in addition to consolidating the presence of texts translated into Arabic from other languages and stimulating competitiveness in the translation market and enhancing the role of translation in deepening cultural ties between different societies, leading to raising the level of translation and enriching the Arab library with international works.
The Cultural Club has set special conditions for participation in this competition, including: that only individuals can be nominated for the award, and nominations from institutions and publishing houses are not accepted, adherence to the specific field of participation in the award, and that the translation be into the Arabic language, and be published in the form of a book, and the date of publication should not exceed five years before the date of nomination, in addition to the fact that the nominated work has not previously won any award in translation. he Cultural Club has set May 31 as the last date for receiving entries. The inauguration of the Translation Award was accompanied by a discussion session on translation in the Sultanate of Oman, in which Dr. Khaled Al-Balushi, Dr. Nasser Al-Badri, and Azhar Al-Harithiya participated. The session was moderated by journalist Hilal Al-Badi, during which many topics of interest to translation and translators, the origins of translation, and the stages it has reached in the Sultanate of Oman were discussed. .
