RO 250,000 Goat Fattening Project Launched in Dhank

Local Goat Farming Project in Al Dhahirah Boosts Food Security

Dhank:  The project for raising and fattening purebred local goats in the Wilayat of Dhank in Al Dhahirah Governorate represents one of the food security projects supporting sustainable economic development in the Sultanate of Oman.

The project is being implemented with support valued at RO 250,000 and an initial production capacity of 10,000 goats annually.

The initiative is presented as an investment opportunity aimed at strengthening partnership with the private sector, with plans for expansion and development in the coming phases. Commercial sales are expected to begin next September.

The project comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority “Riyada” through investment opportunities offered on the “Tatweer” platform of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

The initiative supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and efforts to enhance food security in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr. Yahya bin Khalifa Al Hinai, owner of the livestock project, said that the project reflects the commitment of the concerned authorities to strengthen partnership with the private sector in strategic sectors related to food security.

He told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the project was launched based on the importance of livestock production in supporting self-sufficiency and meeting growing demand for high-quality local products.

He added that local goats are distinguished by the quality of their meat and their ability to adapt to local environmental conditions, making investment in the sector economically and nationally important.

Dr. Al Hinai explained that the project aims to expand production capacity through breeding and organised propagation programmes to meet local market demand and support export opportunities.

He noted that the project seeks to support national food security, provide high-quality local animal products, support the local economy and create employment opportunities for Omani youth.

The project relies on modern technologies including balanced feeding systems, veterinary follow-up programmes, vaccination plans and modern livestock monitoring systems.

He added that the project focuses on selecting productive local breeds known for meat quality and adaptability to climatic conditions in Oman.

Dr. Al Hinai pointed to ongoing cooperation with “Riyada”, which includes technical and advisory support, training programmes, financing facilitation and support for participation in exhibitions and entrepreneurship events.

He added that future plans include expansion into new branches, development of livestock breeds, enhancement of meat quality in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources, expansion of fodder cultivation contracts and adoption of e-marketing and food processing solutions to strengthen the project’s sustainability and competitiveness.
