Dhofar Governorate celebrates World Autism Awareness Day

Salalah: The General Directorate of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate, represented by the Autism Unit at the Al Wafa Center for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Salalah, today organized a celebration on the occasion of World Awareness Day for Autism Spectrum Disorders under the title “Share and Prosper.”

The ceremony, which was held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, was sponsored by His Excellency Hamid bin Awad and others, a member of the Shura Council representing the state of Salalah.

Umayyah bint Hassan Al Nahdi, Head of the Al Wafa Center in Salalah, gave a speech in which she said that the Sultanate of Oman attached great importance to the category of persons with disabilities through the establishment of specialized government rehabilitation centers, and through purchasing services from private centers, while providing various types of care, support, and specialized programs.

She pointed out that the Autism Unit in Salalah, which provides services to the autism spectrum category, is considered a bright model among several models spread throughout the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, and was designed to the highest international standards, including a national medical staff specialized in the field of autism spectrum rehabilitation.

The ceremony included a number of diverse segments, and an awareness-raising visual presentation about the Autism Unit at the Al-Wafa Center for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Salalah, in addition to the experience of a guardian. It is worth noting that this year’s celebration of World Autism Spectrum Disorders Awareness Day aims to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders by focusing on the experiences of individuals with autism.
