Home business require licenses in Oman
Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion issued Ministerial Decision No. 473/2022 regarding the regulation on making homemade business products.
The decision comes with the aim of enabling home businesses that can be practiced by citizens in their homes, and these businesses are considered micro-projects to develop the income of its practitioners, with the obligation to do so within the framework of home business licenses or the usual commercial registration to ensure the rights of the seller and the buyer alike and to ensure the confidence of dealers in transactions. Statistics issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion showed that the number of registered records for home business reached 9,092 in various domestic activities.
The ministerial decision affirmed that everyone who engages in domestic productive work must adjust their conditions in accordance with the provisions of the attached regulation within 6 months from the date of its implementation, and Ministerial Resolution No. 4/2011 regulating the practice of some individual productive work in the aforementioned homes, as well as everything that contravenes the regulation or inconsistent with its provisions.
The decision prohibits the practice of domestic production work without obtaining a license from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in coordination with the competent authority.
