Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has issued a Royal Decree on Thursday to appoint Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti, as the new Minister of Health. 

Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti, aged 49 years, is the Executive President of Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) since may 2015, appointed under Royal Decree No. 24/2015 which was issued by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Sadi. Dr Hilal bin Sabti is a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH).

In 2014, the first artificial heart transplant was performed in the Sultanate of Oman by a heart surgery team led by Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti, for a patient suffering from heart failure. 

Dr.Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti was blessed by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and was honoured with GCC Medal in Civil Service and Administrative Development, on May 1, 2019. He was also conferred by the Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Oman Civil Order (3rd Class) in November 2015.
