EA organizes a specialized symposium on ‘Oman’s efforts to combat attacks on wildlife’

Muscat: The Environment Authority today organized a specialized symposium highlighting the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts in combating infringements on wildlife, with the participation of representatives from the Supreme Judicial Council, members of the State and Shura Councils, specialists in wildlife conservation.

The symposium was sponsored by His Excellency Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam. It was attended by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.‎

The symposium aims to enhance the concept of environment protection law, including environmental rules, regulations and legislation to protect environmental affairs and preserve its components, and to regulate the environmental and societal behavior and activities of violating individuals and those who commit the crime of trespassing on wildlife, while instilling a sense of individual and collective responsibility towards preserving the environment, in addition to highlighting the efforts of the Environment Agency and institutions, with presenting methods for dealing with the consequences and damages when the act occurs, as well as strengthening existing means of cooperation between the legislative, coordinating and executive institutions to protect the environment and work to preserve its resources.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Agency, said in his speech that the Sultanate of Oman has succeeded in protecting the members of Omani wildlife, such as the oryx and the Arabian leopard, pointing to the environmental awareness of all parties in the Sultanate of Oman and their commitment to protecting the Omani environment.

His Excellency stated that the Authority is implementing a national project to survey biodiversity in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, and praised the promising numbers and high monitoring of biodiversity, whether in the sea or on land. The symposium covered four working papers that focused on the regulatory and legislative aspects and regulations in force in the Sultanate of Oman.
