South A’Sharqiyah Reviews Development Plans for Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve

Oman Strengthens Environmental Protection Efforts in Ras Al Hadd

Sur: The Environment Authority and the South A’Sharqiyah Governorate today held a meeting to discuss means of enhancing the sustainable management of natural reserves and improving the efficiency of environmental and developmental plans in the governorate.

The meeting aimed to achieve a balance between conserving natural resources and supporting sustainable development and tourism projects in South A’Sharqiyah Governorate.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, Dr. Yahya Badr Malik Al Maawali, Governor of South A’Sharqiyah, and representatives from government entities and relevant stakeholders.

Participants reviewed updates on the initiative to develop management plans for the Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve, including completed technical studies and efforts aimed at improving management mechanisms and preserving biodiversity and natural habitats within the reserve.

The meeting also discussed a number of proposed projects within the reserve and surrounding areas, in addition to reviewing the environmental impact assessment study for the waterfront and coastal protection project in Ras Al Hadd.

Participants stressed the importance of adhering to approved environmental standards and requirements to preserve coastal ecosystems and marine habitats in a manner that supports sustainable development objectives in the region.

The meeting further reviewed the Ras Al Hadd Lighthouse Project, including its environmental and regulatory aspects and mechanisms to ensure alignment with the reserve’s conservation objectives while supporting the tourism, heritage and environmental features of the area.
