Muscat: An executive plan was signed today to use treated water in agricultural output supervised by the National Employment Programme (NEP).
The plan stems from an initiative aimed to benefit from wastewater in projects that contribute to local food security.
The plan seeks to promote startups that are emerging in the field of farming, to motivate agricultural innovation plans for establishing a strong and sustainable economy and to encourage the management of food security projects through the engagement of entrepreneurs and jobseekers.
The executive plan was signed by Dr. Mahad Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour and Supervisor-General of the National Employment Programme, Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Khalfan Said Al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Eng. Hilal Mohammed Al Ghaithi, Director General of Energy at the Authority for Public Services Regulation, and Qais Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services Company.
The implementation plan will help develop and encourage various agricultural activities and sustainable farming, besides diminishing the waste of water.
The plan will also encourage the use of new technology in the agricultural sector, fill gaps in supply chains by promoting investment in local agricultural products and ensure easy access to consumers, in addition to generating employment opportunities.
