Sur: The Consumer Protection Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate has recently arrested an expatriate worker who trades and sells non-smoked chewed tobacco to consumers, as part of the department’s efforts to combat and control various abuses and their perpetrators and hold them accountable in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, amendments and decisions issued by the authority.

The details are summed up in the judicial control officers receiving information that an expatriate in one of the commercial establishments in the Wilayat of Sur stores and sells smokeless chewed tobacco to consumers through a small store behind the shop where he conducts his business of selling ready-made clothes and accessories, which is in violation of Resolution No. 256/256 and its amendments. Regarding the ban on the circulation of chewed (non-smoked) tobacco in any form and under any name, and after collecting the evidence and coordinating with the concerned authorities in the governorate, the shop and the store were raided and legal measures were taken against the violator. To impose an administrative fine of (1,000) thousand Omani riyals.

The authority stressed that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets and controlling everything that may harm the health and safety of consumers or detract from their rights, and take legal measures against violators.
