Expats arrested for illegal burning wild trees for charcoal in Oman

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested expatriate workers who burn large pils of firewood from wild tress for the purpose of producing packed charcoal for sale.

In a statement Environment Authority said: “The Environment Department in the Al Batinah South Governorate, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, has seized expatriate workers who burn large piles of firewood from wild trees for the purpose of producing packed charcoal ready for distribution and sale in the markets. Legal procedures are completed against them and confiscation of the seized items.

The Environment Aguthority calls upon all owners of farms not to cooperate or contract with this labor in order to preserve the uniqueness of wildlife and avoid legal accountability.”
