Muscat: The Department of Consumer Protection in Rustaq was recently able to arrest two Asian workers selling chewed (non-smoked) tobacco, as part of the efforts made by the authority in the various governorates of the Sultanate in following up and monitoring markets, curbing abuses committed by some suppliers and combating the spread of unauthorized goods to be traded, which have a negative impact on Individual and community health.

The details are summed up in the fact that the judicial officers, during their inspection visits, seized expatriate workers in their possession of quantities of chewed (non-smoked) tobacco, totaling 250 bags and boxes, as 185 bags of Ban Bahar tobacco were seized, as well as (28) bags of tobacco from (Neswar), and three bags of the best raw material were seized, and in each bag there are (24) boxes, in addition to (80) better bags ready for sale and (3) boxes of the (Chenah) type, and (10) boxes of Royal cigarettes. Legal measures were taken against them, as it was proven in the question report that the defendants violated Resolution No. (256/2015) amended by Resolution No. (301/2016) regarding the ban on the circulation of chewing (non-smoking) tobacco in any form and under any name, and the necessary legal measures have been taken. Each of them was fined (1,000) Omani riyals.
