Salalah: The first direct flight from the Czech Republic arrived today at Salalah Airport carrying 200 tourists as part of European tourist groups flocking to the governorate as part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s plan to promote Dhofar Governorate as a global tourist destination throughout the year.
Marwan bin Abdul Hakim Al Ghassani, Director of Tourism Promotion at the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, said: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in partnership with the tourism sector, is making efforts to attract and attract more charter flights, and these efforts have resulted in attracting new European markets that will arrive at Salalah Airport during Current season.
Al-Ghassani explained that there is a return and return on the tourism sector directly and other sectors indirectly and on the local economy. This is an added economic value to the tourism sector, and also contributes to stimulating commercial activity in the governorate.
The Director of the Promotion Department at the General Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate said: The governorate possesses all the elements of tourist attraction that have placed it on the global tourism map. It has moderate weather, charming beaches, and stunning nature. It is also full of many heritage and archaeological sites registered on the World Heritage List (Al Baleed, Sumhuram, and Al Shasr), the Museum of the Land of Frankincense, and the historical forts in Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah, in addition to traditional markets, nature reserves, water springs, valleys, and caves spread throughout. Al-Ghassani pointed out the importance of adventure tourism, various marine sports activities, and desert tourism throughout the Rub’ al-Khali desert, which is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Sultanate of Oman.
He stated that the Ministry has approved the establishment of fixed specialized festivals annually, such as the frankincense season during the National Day holiday period in November, and the Empty Quarter Festival, which is organized in January of each year, which is the period that witnesses the peak of the winter tourism season.
